Congress Work Schedule for 2013...239 Days off!

The American people have hired and/or put into office the 541 members of the 112th United States Congress. The work schedule for the 2013 Congress session has been published, and the calendar indicates that they will work 126 days of the 365 days of the 2013 year.

What I would like to know is how productive can Congress truly be working only 126 days a year? How can this country move forward, develop and thrive with such a work schedule? What exactly gets done in the "239 days off"?

It seems to me that Congress is always faced with deadlines and force to have to make decisions within these tight deadlines, not leaving much time to fully consider and address any issue.

Taking for example, the "fiscal cliff" dilemmas that Congress is addressing now. As of today, they have 29 days until the end of the year to figure this all out, including weekends and holidays. It is a schedule such as this that has this country in the position that it is in.

The first thing on the 2013 agenda, should and needs to be the Congress work schedule.

It seems I am pursuing and currently in the wrong career.

Legalizing Pot....Sort of.

In the states of Colorado, Washington and Oregon had a recreational legalizing marijuana initiative on the ballot in this past election. In the video of the Rachel Maddow Show, shown on MSNBC, Rachel gives a detailed explanation of the initiatives presented to the people of these states.

The issue with the initiative is, in Colorado and Washington the use of recreational marijuana was passed, resulting from this past election. However, officials are now trying to figure out how this initiative will get an approval from the federal government. The Governor of Colorado, John Hickenlooper reminds the state that "...federal law still says marijuana is an illegal drug so don't break out the Cheetos or Goldfish too quickly."

How can this be? Why was it even possible to have this initiative added to the ballot if it directly conflicts with the laws of the federal government? It is matters such as this that brings on the confusion regarding laws and the "loop holes" in these laws, as to there effectiveness but have no true validity. I believe this should have never been placed on the ballot, as ultimately it could amount to be a complete waste of time.

What are your thoughts?

"Runway to Win" Obama's Designer Clothing

Obama took campaigning into your closet with the 2012 president campaign fundraising. The "runway to win" initiative was a high-fashion clothing line campaigning effort that brought in $40 million of the $644 million fundraising dollars for President Obama's campaign. Various clothing designers such as Marc Jacobs, Vera Wang, Tina Knowles and Sean John; and many more joined in this effort to produce the clothing that had a variety of price tags from $45 for a t-shirt, $75 for a tote and $95 for a scarf. This brilliant idea to sell bumper stickers, pins, mugs as well as designer items paid off greatly.

Leaving So Soon....It's about time!

Recently I read a blog by one of my classmates on the state of Georgia and approximately 20 other states that have began to petition to segregate themselves from the United States of America.

Below was a hilarious cartoon published in the "Atlanta Journal-Constitution" by Mike Luckovich regarding the request for petition.

Only question I have is: Why are you leaving (petitioning)? The petition details are very vague as it quotes the Declaration of Independence and indicates that the petition is brought on from issues involving: Civil rights and Liberties, Government Reform and Human Rights; as well as they would like to create a "new" government.

Well if you want out so bad, leave, but they should go out and find available land that has not been claimed, and began there own country, with their "new" government.

C-SPAN: Congressional Chronicle

Did you know that the Congress sessions; as well as other governmental related matters are recorded and can be located at.....http://www.c-spanvideo.org. C-SPAN (Cable-Satellite Public Affairs Network) is the broadcasting network the broadcast the federal government proceedings.

In March 2010, this video library was created and has audio and video recordings from as early as 1987. The "Congressional Chronicle is a section with searchable transcripts of House and Senate floor debates and pages for current and past members of Congress, with biographies, voting records, campaign finance records, and a timeline of House and Senate sessions. The site also provides episodes of Book TV and Booknotes, its now discontinued series of author interviews."
I believe that this find is a treasure for those who are interested in knowing: what's is going on in the Congress sessions and understanding the flow of this process. Although this strictly informational, non-entertaining site serves its purpose; it is still important to be informed and knowledgeable.

Several videos can be found on this such as the one below, the full 2012 DNC Bill Clinton speech:

Political Ads for the 2012 Presidential Election

Political Ads from the 2012 Presidential Elections. As with everything in life, it is the perception of the individual. The ads below certainly are perceiving a deliberate message to it's audience.

Last day for EARLY Voting

Today, November 2, was the last day for early voting.
Did you cast your vote early? Not me, I allowed the day to get away from me and did not take this opportunity to EARLY vote. However, a friend of mines did take the opportunity and stood in line for 2 and a half hours. Whew!

I located an article about the 2012 Presidential Election Early voting, and it stated the following:
"The United States Election Project, shows that across the country there have been 17,311,920 early ballots cast. In Georgia, there have been 1,159,980 people to take advantage of the early voting." And counting....of the approximate 9 million plus people in Georgia, of that 5.2 million are registered to vote.

The Messages Surrounding the Message: 2012 Presidential Campaign

Here is a 15 minute or video of the Rachel Maddow show comparing a few messages of the presidential campaign. It is interesting and rather clever in my opinion how she gets these points across. She is certainly worth listening to. (In my opinion)

At about the 9 minute mark is a great place to start, excusing the poll comparison details.

Abortions Issues Plaguing the Current Day

Making a decision to keep a life is a life changing decision, how many should be involved in that decision?

In an article from "The Maddow Blog", title Bringing Roe v. Wade back in Wichita, by Rebekah Dryden, has brought life to a decades old issue. This article is regarding an abortion clinic that was closed in 2009 due to the assassination of the Dr. George Tiller the owner of the clinic. Currently, the Trust Women Foundation has purchased the clinic to resume the facility to full use in Wichita, KS. Currently there is a Kansas Law that is pending the state courts that are making the law stricter, indicating at a certain week, the pregnant minor must get the permission of both parents before the procedure can take place, as well as the requirements of the licensing and inspections on abortion clinics. Advocates in Kansas, such as the president of Operation Rescue is standing firm on not allowing abortions to take place in Wichita, KS.

It amazes me how this community is receiving life threatening messages if they resume there efforts to abort in this area.

Heart Beat Bill in Ohio..."The Abortion War"

Its seems as though abortion is a very hot topic of this 2012 Presidential Election. I seem a very informative and interesting video on this topic. It is a great media piece in my opinion, however one of the most interesting pieces start at about the 12:42 minute mark and goes to about 13:07, this is something he has never thought about yet in Ohio they have passed the Heart Beat Bill. The bill is essential if the baby's heartbeat is detected, the baby is protected.

I am only using this material to simply say, I would hope that questions like, "what do you think makes a women want to have an abortion," was thought of before trying to pass any type of bills, considering all the information.

Interesting to say the least!
